The Office of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go on Tuesday, March 30, provided assistance to fire victims in Malolos City, Bulacan and twenty other indigents who are in need of medical assistance.

The Senator’s team distributed meals, food packs, masks and face shields to the indigent residents and additional financial assistance to a family victimized by a fire incident.

The distribution activity, held at the Department of Social Welfare and Development Provincial Extension Office in Malolos City, was conducted in batches and under strict health protocols to prevent the further spread of COVID-19.

“Alam niyo, napakahirap ng buhay natin ngayon. Ganon pa man, ‘wag sana kayong mag-alala, mga kababayan. Kami ni Presidente [Rodrigo] Duterte, sa abot ng aming makakaya, ay tutulong kami sa inyo,” said Go.

“Ang importante ay buhay tayo. Magtulungan tayo at malalampasan rin natin itong krisis na ating kinakaharap,” he encouraged.

A certain beneficiary was given a pair of shoes, while another received a bicycle for his daily work commute amid limited public transportation options. Another beneficiary was given a tablet to help his children study and access educational materials at home under the blended learning approach.

“Mga kabataan, mag-aral kayo nang mabuti dahil kayo ang kinabukasan ng bayang ito. Magtapos kayo ng pag-aaral dahil ‘yan ay konswelo sa inyong mga magulang na halos nagpapakamatay sa trabaho,” he continued.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Health, Go pledged to assist any indigent beneficiary in need of medical treatments or services. One of the beneficiaries, Benjamin Cabral, told the Senator that the financial aid he received will be helpful in treating his diabetes.

“May sakit po akong diabetes. Gagamitin ko po ito. Kaya po ako nagpapasalamat kay Senator Bong Go sa tulong niya sa akin,” he shared.

The beneficiary, then

, proceeded to thank the government and the Senator for all the aid he received.

“Lubos po akong nagpapasalamat sa tulong pinansyal na binigay niyo sa akin, malaking tulong po sa akin. Marami hong salamat, Senator Bong Go at sa ating Presidente. Thank you po,” he said.

Go also informed the beneficiaries that they may also conveniently avail of medical assistance from the government through the Malasakit Center at the Bulacan Medical Center in Malolos City and Rogaciano M. Mercado Memorial Hospital in Santa Maria town, all in Bulacan.

The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop which houses desk representative

s from the Department of Health, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office. Go principally authored the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.

As part of the national government’s intervention measures for those in distress, representatives from the DSWD were also at the activity to separately provide the beneficiaries with financial assistance to help them pay for food, shelter and utilities, among others.

In his message to the fire victims, Go emphasized that it is not only his duty to be a legislator. As a public servant, he said that it is also his duty to help Filipinos in their times of need in order to listen to their concerns and provide solutions to their daily struggles.

“Trabaho po namin na magserbisyo sa bawat Pilipino at, gaya ng ipinangako ko noon, kahit saang sulok kayo ng Pilipinas ay pupuntahan ko po kayo hanggang kaya ng aking oras at katawan,” the Senator said.
