Senator Christopher “Bong” Go continued to reach out to more far-flung areas in the country as his team conducted another series of aid activities for more struggling residents in Sulat and San Julian in Eastern Samar on Thursday, October 14.

Go’s team organized two separate distribution activities for a thousand beneficiaries from various sectoral groups, in which they handed out masks, face shields, and vitamins to each individual. Go’s staff also distributed new pairs of shoes, bicycles, and computer tablets to some beneficiaries.

Ginagawa po lahat ng gobyerno para po malampasan natin itong krisis na ito,” urged Go in a video message during the activities.

Meanwhile, personnel from the Department of Social Welfare and Development handed out financial assistance through its Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation program.

The activities were held in batches to ensure all health and safety protocols against COVID-19 were strictly observed throughout the distribution.

In his video message, the senator offered further assistance as he encouraged the residents with health concerns to seek medical attention at Eastern Samar Provincial Hospital in Borongan City where there is a Malasakit Center available to assist them with their medical expenses.

Senator Go principally authored and sponsored the Republic Act No. 11463, otherwise known as the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, to efficiently provide Filipinos, particularly poor and indigent patients, convenient access to medical assistance programs offered by the DSWD, Department of Health, Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, and Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office.

The senator, who also serves as the Chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, urged the public to strictly follow necessary health protocols and take part in the national vaccination program to boost their bodies’ defenses against coronavirus.

The senator, as Vice Chair of the Senate Finance Committee, extended his support for the improvement and upgrading of a farm-to-market road in Sulat and municipal roads in San Julian.

He also helped in the reconstruction of the Catarman Public Market and the construction of a drainage canal in Brgy. Dalakit, both in the town of Catarman. He also supported infrastructure development in the province, such as the construction of multi-purpose buildings in Jipapad, Maydolong, and Oras; acquisition of ambulance units in Maslog, Quinapondan, and Taft; drainage improvement in Can-Avid and Taft; and road rehabilitation in Balangkayan, Dolores, Giporlos, Jipapad, Lawaan, Marabut, Mercedes, Quinapondan, San Julian, and Taft.

Go then thanked Representative Maria Fe Abunda, Governor Ben Evardone, Vice Governor Maria Caridad Goteesan, San Julian Mayor Dennis P. Estaron and Vice Mayor Allan C. Doligon, Sulat Mayor Javier Evardone Zacate and Vice Mayor Amado Adesas Amigo, and other local leaders for serving their constituents and undertaking measures to help people recover from the challenges brought by the pandemic.

Despite filing his candidacy for Vice President for the upcoming national elections, Go stressed that his focus remains on fulfilling his mandate as a senator and in ensuring that no Filipino will be left behind towards recovery amid the ongoing health crisis.
