Terrorism, Anti Distracted Driving Violations Against Lopez
Controversial former beauty queen Maria Isabel Lopez may be facing charges of violation of the anti-terrorism law and other traffic violation cases because of her antics at the ASEAN Lane last Saturday, November 11, 2017.
Department of Transportation Assistant Secretary Leah Quiambao said the Land Transportation Office has issued a summon to Lopez to explain her actions.
“The Department of Transportation (DOTr) supports the move of the Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) to recommend the suspension or cancellation of actress Maria Isabel Lopez’s driver’s license for deliberately removing the cones and entering into the ASEAN lane along EDSA,” Quiambao said in a statement sent to this reporter.
“Ms. Lopez’s actions, which she even posted on social media, does not only show a blatant disregard of traffic rules and regulations, but also puts at risk the Summit delegates and other persons who might replicate her actions,” Quiambao added.
Lopez will initially be charged with violations of the Anti Distracted Driving Act and other traffic violations.
“A summon has already been issued by the LTO to Ms. Lopez yesterday, 12 November 2017, for committing the following violations: 1. Disregarding traffic signs; 2. Violation of the Anti Distracted Driving Act ; 3. Reckless driving ,” reports Quiambao.
Meanwhile, LTO Chief Edgar Galvante says that proper investigation procedures will be observed.
“The LTO shall ensure that their decision will be anchored on the truth, and adherence to the rule of law,” Galvante said.
Quiambao also said they are coordinating with the PNP-HPG for possible filing of violation of anti-terrorism and violation of security protocol charges against Lopez.
