Ssangyong, Kia Top DOE/Petron Fuel Economy Run
The Department of Energy has been conducting an annual fuel economy run on all brands and models of motor vehicles in the country to benchmark which vehicle has the best fuel efficiency.
The fuel eco run, as it is more popularly know, is not a compulsory activity for auto companies and they can volunteer the vehicles they wish to field in the test. This year there were 52 cars from 16 brands that joined the event.
The most fuel efficient motor vehicle this year is from Korean car brand Ssangyong. Their 2-liter SUV Rodius logged 33.12 kilometers to a liter consumption. The Rodius is a diesel engine powered car.
” Why a fuel economy run will be conducted in the wee hours of the morning on a deserted highway escapes me because it does not reflect real life results.”
For gasoline engines, topping the result was 1.2 liter Kia Picanto with a fuel efficiency score of 29.23 kilometers per liter.
The eco run is conducted on the consecutive expressways of SLEX to TPLEX. It has a total distance of 216 kilometers. Its starts at Petron Clark and then drives all the way to the Binalonan exit where the cars turn around and then head back to Petron Clark.
The run starts at 12:00 midnight and lasted until 5:00 in the morning.
