Senate reset reading of impeachment charges against VP Duterte to June 11

Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero said presentation of the articles of impeachment by the House of Representatives prosecution panel against Vice President Sara Duterte has been moved from June 2 to June 11,
The 19th Congress will adjourn sine die on June 14.
Escudero said the Senate and the House needed to prioritize the passage of the items in the administration’s legislative agenda before the 19th Congress adjourned sine die.
Escudero said there were also over 200 presidential appointees whose appointments have to be reviewed and confirmed by the bicameral Commission on Appointments.
“With only six (6) session days before the sine die adjournment, it is imperative for the Senate and the House of Representatives to prioritize the passage of these measures, consistent also with the administration’s thrust to align our government with the people’s needs and expectations,” Escudero said in a letter to House Speaker Martin Romualdez.
The Senate President referred to the meeting on Thursday of the Legislative-Executive Development Council (LEDAC), which resolved to pass measures listed in the legislative agenda within the 19th Congress.
These include:
Amendments to the Foreign Investors’ Long-Term Lease Act;
E-Governance Act;
Open Access in Data Transmission (Konektadong Pinoy);
Rationalization of the Mining Fiscal Regime;
Amendments to the Universal Health Care Act;
Virology Institute of the Philippines;
Government Optimization Act;
Amendments to the Right-of-Way Act;
Setting the Term of Office of Barangay Officials and Members of the Sanggunian Kabataan (SK)
Judicial Fiscal Autonomy;
Denatured Alcohol Tax; and
Anti-POGO Act.
Escudero also mentioned the appointments of three cabinet secretaries, four officials of constitutional commissions, 39 foreign service officials, and 277 officials from the armed forces that need to be reviewed by the Commission on Appointments.
