Reelectionist and Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairperson Imee Marcos said the committee found that there were “glaring violations on the rights” of Duterte committed by this administration.
In releasing the preliminary findings of the panel’s investigation into the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte. The Committee said that the Philippines had no legal obligation to arrest Duterte and turn him over to the International Criminal Court.
Marcos-led panel pointed that the Philippine government “decided to assist” the ICC to arrest Duterte.
Imee explained that she launched a probe into the arrest of Duterte not to discredi the administration of her brother, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
Meanwhile, Malacanang said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has no rift with his sister, Senator Imee Marcos, following her departure from the administration’s senatorial ticket.
In a statement, Malacanang says we cannot say that there is a rift. Let’s just wait for the President to speak about it… the President has never thin-skinned.
Yesterday, Imee had announced that she was officially leaving the administration’s senatorial ticket. In her statement, she cited the actions of the Philippine government during the arrest of Duterte, which are different from her ideals and principles.
Navotas City Rep. Toby Tiangco, Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas’ campaign manager, said they respect the senator’s decision.
