PTV to revamp dynamic programs, eyes reforms

MANILA — State-run People’s Television (PTV) Network on Friday said it will revamp its shows with new dynamic programs for Filipinos, and these are set to be launched starting on Sept. 11.
“We’re excited to create more engaging content in the coming days — more watchable, dynamic programming that’s attuned to the viewing habits of today’s digitally-connected Filipinos,”  PTV General Manager Analisa Puod said in a press conference.
Among the new programs are the PBBM program block on weekdays at 5:30 a.m., which will feature short documentaries via “On the ground” and “BBM vlogs” to keep track of the activity of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr; and the “Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon,” featuring government agencies’ officials and spokespersons who will discuss pressing issues and address public queries.
Also part of these are “Punto Asintado Reload”, which will air 10 a.m. on weekdays and to be hosted by ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. and veteran broadcaster Erwin Tulfo along with Aljo Bendijo; and other investigative, international, and feature stories under PTV news and public affairs.
Puod also expressed the need for PTV’s rebranding since the TV network is being misconstrued as a mere “government propaganda machine.”
Aside from rebranding, the PTV chief also mentioned addressing internal challenges through reforms to realize revenue generation for the network.
“We have 3Rs, rebranding, revenue, and reorganization. So these three should happen,” she said in mixed English and Filipino.
She insisted that improving the network’s working conditions would help the network produce quality programs for Filipino viewers.
“Pwedeng makapag-regular kami, (at) makapagbigay ng magandang benepisyo at insentibo sa aming empleyado kasi sila po yung heart and soul of PTV (We may regularize our employees, and provide benefits and incentives because they are the heart and soul of PTV),” she said.
Mandate-driven
Puod said PTV will keep launching programs within the bounds of its mandate but noted the network has no intention to resort to launching typical entertainment noontime or drama shows.
“Wala namang intensyon na kumuha ng artista. ‘Yung mga inihahanda naming content would be enticing enough para panoorin. Right now, (we are) under negotiations with Mr. Willie Revillame (We have no intention to hire artists. What we are preparing are contents that are enticing enough to be viewed. Right now, we have on-going negotiations with Mr. Willie Revillame),” she said.
She said the programs they intend to launch will focus on helping Filipino viewers to think “wisely and critically.”
To date, PTV has 16 analog transmitting stations and six digital transmitting stations alongside the operation of its various digital platforms and social media pages. (PNA)
