PNP asked organizer of Sept. 21 protest to secure permit

The Philippine National Police (PNP) urged organizer of Sept. 21 anti-corruption protest rally to coordinate with Manila City government and secure permits.
PNP Public Information Office chief P/ Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuaño said while the police allowed previous demonstrations without permits, having proper clearances would help authorities better manage crowds and ensure public safety.
Tuano said Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla and PNP chief Jose Melencio Nartatez ordered maximum tolerance on the earlier protest rally to allow the public to voice out their sentiment against corruption.
The PNP is on heightened alert and may raise its status to full alert in the coming days in preparation for possible mass actions.
Police also reported that no untoward incidents occurred during the recent Sept. 12 and 13 rallies.
Quezon City Police District (QCPD) spokesperson PMaj. Jennifer Gannaban said around 150 individuals from eight organizations gathered during the “Black Friday” rally on Sept. 12, which was held without a permit but ended peacefully.
Manila Police District (MPD) spokesperson PMaj. Philipp Ines, meanwhile, said regular police operations, including checkpoints, are ongoing and no threats have been received so far.
The PNP also expressed full support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. after he addressed ongoing and planned protest actions, assuring the public that peace and order will be maintained at all times.
Acting Chief PNP PLt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the police force is ready to secure communities while protecting the rights of all citizens.
