Malacañang is looking into pronouncement of the National Security Council (NSC) that there are indications that China is meddling with the 2025 midterm elections.

Malacanang said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., was already informed of the matter and the reported interference would be investigated.

Meanwhile, Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun has denied the NSC’s information, saying it has “no interest” to do such acts in relation to the Philippine polls.

“China follows the principle of non-interference in other countries’ domestic affairs,” Guo Jiakun said in a press statement.

NSC Assistant Director General Jonathan Malaya, on the other hand, told the Senate during the investigation of China’s submersible drone and espionage activities in that county that information operation being conducted and actually interfering in the midterm elections are Chinese state -sponsored.

“There are indications that information operations are being conducted… are Chinese state-sponsored in the Philippines and are actually interfering in the forthcoming elections,” Malaya said.

Marcos back candidates under Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas also expressed alarm over the matter, noting that this information was concerning.

Campaign Manager Toby Tiangco said this was not just a political issue, but a matter of national security.
