In a confirmation of an earlier story this year about ride sharing app Uber being taken over by regional competitor Grab, we have received confirmation today that the local Uber app will cease to be functional by April 8, 2018.

In an email to this writer, Uber informed its clients that “Uber will be combining our operations with Grab to lead you in the next chapter of ridesharing in the Philippines and across Southeast Asia.”

What this means to the riding public is that Uber will be “transitioning their services over to the Grab platform by April 8, 2018, so all requests after that date should be made from the Grab app. However, you can still use the Uber app in more than 80 countries around the world.”

Uber’s email announcement.

Uber has not given information about how they will transition their unique drivers to the Grab platform and how this will affect the rates of Grab now that they are the biggest ride-sharing app in the country.
