Private operator NAIA Infrastructure Corporation (NNIC) is conducting a major clearing operations removing 27 abandoned aircraft from the general aviation area of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

In a statement, NNIC said several of the aircraft have been idle for years, including a Cessna 421B parked at NAIA since 2009 and a Boeing 737-200 that has been unused since 2015.

“The continued presence of these aircraft severely limits our operational capacity,” said NNIC… Clearing them will allow us to improve airside traffic flow and accommodate increasing passenger and aircraft movements at NAIA,” NNIC said.

Since assuming control of airport operations in September 2024, NNIC has partnered with the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) to identify the abandoned aircraft and reach out to owners.

Formal notices have been issued to the registered owners or their authorized representatives.

NNIC is calling on aircraft owners to immediately coordinate with the company to verify ownership and arrange for retrieval or proper disposal. Failure to respond will result in the removal and disposal of the aircraft in line with existing laws and regulations, it said.
