NLEX to charge trucks’ drivers, owners cost for Marilao Bridge repair

North Luzon Expressway Corp. is planning of recovering the repair expenses of Marilao Interchange Bridge from the drivers and owners of two trucks involved in the accident.
NLEX Corp. Assistant Vice President for Traffic Operations Robin Ignacio said the company is initially shouldering repair cost, which amount to millions.
Earlier, NLEX Corp. filed charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property against the drivers and owners of the trucks. The company intends to claim the restoration costs through legal proceedings.
While repairs are ongoing, NLEX Corp. has advised motorists to take alternate routes.
Meanwhile, NLEX Corp. is still assessing the Department of Transportation’s request to waive toll fees in affected areas due to heavy traffic.
The accident, which damaged the bridge on Wednesday, forced the closure of two northbound lanes. The company estimates repairs will take two to three weeks.
On Thursday, despite counterflow measures, travel times increased by up to two hours due to congestion caused by the damage.
