The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Friday New year 2026 celebration was generally peaceful despite reports of firecracker injuries, damaged properties, and stray bullet incidents.

PNP acting chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. as we welcome the New Year and the rest of the holiday season, we have recorded damage to property and to lives, but it is generally peaceful. December 16 to December 31, 11 cases of indiscriminate firing and five stray bullet incidents were reported.

Nartatez said there have been five reported cases of indiscriminate firing and two incidents of stray bullets since the New Year.

The police have arrested 11 suspects including three police officers involved in the indiscriminate firing incidents, according to Nartatez.

As of Friday morning, the Department of Health (DOH) reported 235 firework-related injuries across the country. It was 42% lower than the 403 cases logged in the same period last year.

Data gathered showed that 161 of the victims were 19 years old and below. The top causes of these injuries were unknown firecrackers, boga, and five star.

“Actually, hindi pa tapos. Meron pa tayong hinihintay na reverse travel nila sa kung saan nagde-deploy po tayo dito sa mga transportation hubs and other tourist destinations,” Nartatez said.

(Actually, it’s not over yet. We are still waiting for their reverse travel to where we are deploying here in transportation hubs and other tourist destinations.)
