Passengers will now find it easy to go up and down MRT-3 premises as all escalators and elevators in its 13 stations are now fully operational after the completion of rehabilitation works of the facilities yesterday, 20 August 2020.

All 46 escalators and 34 elevators are now up and running after the DOTr tasked Sumitomo-MHI-TESP, the rail line’s maintenance provider, to overhauled the non-operational units.

To keep these station facilities in good working condition, and thus avoid frequent breakdowns, the DOTr also arranged for their regular preventive maintenance.

The completion of rehabilitation of the conveyance facilities is ahead of its September 2020 target schedule. The project commenced in June last year.

Prior to the comprehensive rehab works of MRT-3, there were only 14 escalators working on 02 January 2019. Only 5 elevators were operational on 04 May 2016.

Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, the Department of Transportation (DOTr), under the leadership of Secretary Arthur P. Tugade, and the MRT-3 management, kept their commitment to provide better and quality service to its commuters.

“The repair of all the escalators and elevators is a big help for our commuters. This is our responsibility to the passengers, to restore MRT-3 to its original, high-grade state and provide them better railway services,” said MRT-3 Director for Operations Michael J. Capati.

The overhauling of the escalators and elevators is part of the comprehensive rehabilitation works of MRT-3.
