Metro Manila on alert after Jolo bombings
Lawmen in Metro Manila’s five districts have been directed to monitor people who have come in from Jolo, Sulu, following Monday’s deadly bombings in the southern town.
“We have alerted our people in the different district offices on the bombing incident and to monitor kung mayroon bang galing sa Jolo na pumunta dito sa atin,” Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas, National Capital Region Police Office director, said.
He said the NCRPO’s intelligence community has also been directed to intensify coordination with counterparts in the Bangsamoro autonomous region and Zamboanga Peninsula, especially those who monitor “transhipment areas.”
Sinas said they are also employing a “shock and awe” tactic, by deploying more members of the Explosives and Ordnance Disposal unit and K-9 dogs.
Those policemen are now making rounds at embassies, rail stations, malls, bus terminals, plazas, supermarkets, and other places of convergence like churches, he said.
“Hopefully this will prevent bombs [from being] planted.”
“We are preparing ourselves [pero] wala naman talagang 100 percent na makuha namin na walang makapasok kaya humihingi kami ng tulong sa mga kababayan natin dito sa NCR na kapag mayroon kayong ma-detect na mga unattended baggage, please report to the nearest police station.”
In related news, police in Western Visayas also encouraged people in the region to be “more vigilant” in light of the bombings.
“Currently, the whole of Western Visayas is under Terrorism Threat Level 1 which means that we have no monitored threats in the entire region,” the regional police said in a statement.
