The change comes after the Japanese government made revised a Cabinet order on visa fees for the first time in 48 years.

He said the government is not expecting the increased fees to have an immediate impact on inbound tourism.

record number of tourists flocked to Japan last year, the transport ministry said. The country logged 42.7 million tourist arrivals in 2025, topping the previous year’s record of nearly 37 million.
