Isko says no to bike lanes on main roads

Manila Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso on Sunday expressed opposition to creating bicycle lanes in the capital city, saying he fears for the lives of bike riders.

Domagoso said many motorists have little respect for those on two-wheeled vehicles like motorcyclists and bicyclists, with the latter at most risk in meeting accidents.

Under the general community quarantine in effect in Metro Manila, workers are allowed to report to work as long as they have a means of transportation.

A number of said workers, as well as most people who have to go out to meet their needs, have turned to bicycles to get from point A to point B.

“I have read a long of reports involving two-wheeled vehicles figuring in accidents with trucks and buses, with the latter’s drivers even backing up on people to ensure they are dead because their liabilities are smaller when the victims are dead,” he said in Filipino.
