Reelected Senator Imee Marcos confirmed meeting with Atty. Nicholas Kaufman, lawyer representing former president Rodrigo Duterte at the International Criminal Court.

In her Facebook post, Marcos said she had told Vice President Sara Duterte, “Higit kanino man, alam ko ang pakiramdam ng mawalay sa sariling bayan, kaya’t simula’t sapul alam niya ang laman ng aking puso patungkol sa di katanggap-tanggap na sinapit ni PRRD.”

“Ngunit narito tayo hindi upang magdrama, kundi para sa solusyon, narito tayo upang umaksyon. Hindi ako naghintay ng 39 years para lang magkamali muli, may Marcos na natuto sa kasaysayan,” Marcos added.

“Narito ako hindi para sa isang tao, kundi para sa sambayanang Pilipino. Thank you Atty. Nicholas Kaufman. Together, we will bring PRRD home,” she said.

No other details about their meeting were immediately available.

Marcos had led Senate hearings on ex-President Duterte’s arrest and had urged the Ombudsman to investigate several Cabinet officials over their alleged involvement in his turnover to the ICC.

She won her Senate re-election bid earlier this month following endorsements from the Vice President and the former President’s PDP Laban party.

Earlier, Kaufman said he sees “compelling” reasons for the ICC to throw the case out because it lacks jurisdiction.

Duterte removed the Philippines from the ICC in 2019 and his supporters insist the court therefore has no power over the former president and he should be released.
