Reelectionist Senator Imee Marcos has withdrawn from the administration’ Alyansa Para sa Bagong Pilipinas slate endorsed by her brother President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..
Imee said differences in view over the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte was the reason in leaving the administration slate.
“I cannot stand on the same campaign platform as the rest of the Alyansa,” she said.
Last week, Sen. Marcos conducted a Senate hearing on Duterte’s arrest and transfer to the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands.
She, likewise, said preliminary findings of the hearing will be out soon, but stressed that the government’s actions “run counter to my ideals and principles.”
Earlier, she decline inclusion into the administration slate, saying she wanted to be able to talk to both factions in the former UniTeam alliance.
Recently, President Marcos omitted Senator Imee in his speech during the campaign sortie in vote rich province of Laguna.
Imee Marcos skip two major campaign sorties in Laguna and Cavite, prompting speculation that the administration has drop her from the group.
“As I have stated from the outset of the election period, I will continue to maintain my independence,” Sen. Marcos said.
In the same statement, she said government resource speakers’ answers — and lack of them when they invoked executive privilege and the sub judice rule — “only gave rise to ever greater suspicion that the Constitution may have been disregarded and our sovereignty diminished by the arrest of former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.”
