The National Task Force Against Covid-19 (NTF) chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said the government will focus on purchasing COVID-19 vaccine doses from Pfizer and Moderna.

Galvez said although the government is exploring to buy more Chinese made vaccine Sinovac, we are to concentrate on purchasing Pfizer and Moderna vaccine once the delivery of their supply stabilizes.

“Yes, we’re exploring to buy more (Sinovac). But, ang ano nga namin, once na nag-deliver na yung majority ng Pfizer at saka Moderna, we might be concentrating on these major brands,” he said.

Earlier, Galvez said the government is expecting the delivery of around 5 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine in September.

On Wednesday, a total of 365,040 doses of the Pfizer vaccine arrived in the Philippines.

Galvez said that most of the new supply of Pfizer vaccine doses will be given to areas that have not rolled this brand yet.

“So that in the future, once Pfizer picks up their deliveries, they are well aware and they are already well trained on how to handle the sensitivities of Pfizer,” he said.

As of August 15, a total of 42,575,350 COVID-19 vaccine doses from different brands have been delivered to the country, according to the National Task Force Against COVID-19.
