Fun run to beat corruption, call for accountability held at UP Diliman

“Takbo Laban sa Korapsyon” a fun run to condemn alleged corruption in government flood control and other infrastructure projects was participated by more than 1,000 runners.
Joaquin Buenaflor, chairperson of the UP Diliman University Student Council, as well as members of activist and advocacy groups also call for accountability and transparency amid investigations into the supposed irregularities in government projects.
He said the event sought to “organize the collective agitation of the public” after the existence of “ghost” or non-existent flood control projects came to light recently.
Runners “can express their anger and agitation” at the different stations along the University of the Philippines (UP) Academic Oval, said Gio Biglaen, chairperson of UP Diliman College of Science Student Council.
The run comes amid calls from government officials to avoid “violent” demonstrations and threats from police that they would file charges over a protests in front of the House of Representatives and at the office of a construction firm in Pasig City earlier in the week.
UP Faculty Regent Early Sol Gadong, who also participated in the event, stressed that problems in public health are not only a personal responsibility but are linked to many systemic factors.
Recent widespread flooding across the country has contributed to an increase in hospital admissions due to leptospirosis.
The fun run follows protests earlier this week to denounce the supposed corruption in the billion-peso flood control projects
