DOTr to offer free train rides on LRT, MRT lines from Dec. 14 to 25

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) announced the 12 days of free rides for passengers of the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2, and Metro Rail Transit (MRT) 3 starting from December 14 to 25 .
The DOTr said the 12 days of free rides is in accordance with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to provide commuters with a safe, comfortable, and pleasant travel experience amid the holidays.
Starting December 14, the following sectors may avail of free rides at the LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3 lines:
- December 14: Senior citizens
- December 15: Students
- December 16: Overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families
- December 17: Teachers, health workers
- December 18: Persons with disabilities (PWDs) and male passengers
- December 19: Government employees
- December 20: Female passengers
- December 21: Families (regardless of number of members)
- December 22: Solo parents and members of the LGBTQIA+ community
- December 23: Private sector employees and house helpers
- December 24: Uniformed personnel, veterans, and their families
- December 25: All commuters
Earlier, the management of LRT-2 said it is extending its operating hours starting December 9 to accommodate more passengers during the December holidays.
