The Department of Transportation (DOTr) suspended fifteen buses of Florida Transport Inc. after a viral racing video along a national highway went viral.

Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said buses plying the Santa Ana to Sampaloc and the Baguio to Apayao routes are suspended for a minimum of 30 days beginning Wednesday, June 11.

The video, posted by Carlo Carbonel, showed six buses of Florida Transport apparently racing along the national highway from Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya towards Cordon, Isabela early morning on Sunday, June 8.

“As of today, suspended ‘yung 15 bus na nagpa-ply doon sa rotang Santa Ana to Sampaloc sa Cagayan, at ‘yung Baguio to Apayao. Magtatakaka kayo, bakit kasama ‘yung Baguio to Apayao? Dahil isa doon sa mga bus na nakipagkarerahan sa national highway papuntang Cagayan Valley ay out of line. Ang rota niya ay Baguio-Carmen. Apayao-Carmen. Ang layo noon,” said Dizon.

“So pati ‘yung rotang ‘yun, suspendido [for] 30 days. Minimum, 30 days, as of tomorrow,” he added.

The drivers of the six buses will also have their licenses suspended for 90 days. All buses of Florida Transport Inc. will also undergo mandatory drug testing, according to Dizon.

Florida Transport Inc. expressed its apologies about the incident, saying: “The content does not align with our company’s values and standards. We are currently addressing the matter internally, and we assure the public that the safety and well-being of our passengers is our top priority.”

But Dizon dismissed their apology and said that he has asked Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairman Teofilo Guadiz to seek the “maximum penalties” against the bus company.
