Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon has ordered the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC), the private operator of LRT-1, to compensate passengers who were injured after an escalator malfunctioned at FPJ Station.

In a statement, Dizon reminded LRMC to always prioritize the reliability of LRT-1’s facilities and the safety of commuters.

A woman was brought to the hospital and got discharged after two hours, while six others went home after receiving first aid.

He said this is in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure commuters’ safety during the ride.

Dizon said I ordered LRMC to give immediate assistance to the injured passengers and to immediately fix the broken escalator.

As of 9:30 a.m. of Saturday, August 16, the escalator has been repaired and cleared for public use.

“The DOTr assures the public that it will continue working closely with LRMC to prevent similar incidents happening in the future,” the department added.
