The Department of Justice and the Department of the Interior and Local Government denied reports that former chief of the Philippine National Police and Senator Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa had been arrested.

In a press conference, DOJ spokesperson Atty. Polo Martinez said he could not confirm any details on the matter as the department has yet to receive any reports.

“We cannot confirm that information, at least not yet. Wala pa po kami natatanggap na nangyari ‘yan. ‘Yan lang po masasabi ko ngayon,” Martinez said.

“Please tell the press corps that as far as the PNP [is concerned] we have no information to that effect,” Interior Secretary Juanito Victor Remulla said.

At the Senate on Tuesday, Sen. Panfilo Lacson said Dela Rosa would already be at the airport if it were true that he had been arrested.

He said his contact at the National Bureau of Investigation said the information was “negative.”

Sought for comment, NBI director Melvin Matibag said, “Wala, wala (There’s none).”

The International Criminal Court has issued a warrant of arrest for Dela Rosa in connection with the crimes against humanity former President Rodrigo Duterte is facing before the tribunal in The Hague.

Duterte and Dela Rosa are alleged co-conspirators in the charges of crimes against humanity of murder and attempted murder, related to the killings under Duterte’s war on drugs when he was president and when he was mayor of Davao City.
