DFA refutes China travel advisory as ‘mischaracterizes’ situation in PH

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) countered China’s latest travel warning, saying it “mischaracterizes the situation” in the country.
DFA spokesperson Angelica Escalona said “instances of crimes reported or known to law enforcement authorities, including those perpetrated by Chinese nationals against their compatriots, are being vigorously addressed by relevant law enforcement authorities.”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the travel advisory last August 30,days after Senator Panfilo Lacson alleged that Chinese sleeper agents and operatives from China’s People’s Liberation Army (PLA) are operating in the Philippines.
“Chinese citizens who intend to visit the Philippines are advised to make risk assessment and travel arrangements carefully,” the advisory said.
Escalona maintained that the Philippine government has been engaging with relevant stakeholders on the crime cases, involving Chinese nationals.
“The Philippines remains committed to constructively addressing matters of mutual concern with China,” she said, citing the July joint consular meeting in Beijing, where “both sides discussed concerns and measures, and expressed readiness to deepen law enforcement cooperation.”
