DERMALOG provides biometric border control system with integrated temperature detection
A new strain of the coronavirus has, again, made the world’s different countries scramble to secure their borders from allowing entry to those infected. Already, the Philippines has banned entry of travelers from 21 nations where the new virus has been detected.
But more than this, each nation wants to institutionalize a system where the monitoring and recording of individuals entering their territory are recorded for faster contact tracing and prevention.
For this, DERMALOG has developed the first biometric border control system with integrated temperature detection, identifying potentially infected travelers right at the border entrance to contain epidemics. This latest innovation of the German company has been presented to the public in Thailand and is currently in use at selected entry points.
The biometric border control system introduced by DERMALOG at the Don Mueang airport can capture not only fingerprints and faces, but also measures the body temperature of travelers who pass through the related counters. The temperature is displayed on the border officer’s screen and, if someone with elevated body temperature is detected, the officer is automatically informed and can send the affected person for a health check.
DERMALOG has developed a special camera, which is fully integrated into the Thai entry-exit system. It automatically measures the exact body temperature of the traveler while standing in front of the border counter. High accuracy at a distance of up to 1.5 m, is one of the system’s outstanding features.
Border counters are the perfect spot for temperature checks, as travelers stop here one by one for a moment. DERMALOG’s solution provides more accurate and precise results than camera systems that capture several travelers simultaneously. This makes the Thai borders more secure, also against the coronavirus.
The Philippines is considering creating an Advanced Passenger Information System database that not only logs the entry of travelers into a system but also monitors their body temperature to detect possible Covid-19 infections.
DERMALOG’s system is the ideal equipment for this program. Dermalog not only detects body temperature, but also checks the identity of the passenger by comparing using advanced biometrics information and then checks it with a global database. This allows the identification of individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 in other areas to be recognized and flagged at our borders.
