Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Caprio has kept the top choice for presidential candidate in the 2022 polls, a Pulse Asia survey showed Wednesday.

The survey conducted between September 6 to 11, showed Mayor Sara ranking first with 20% rating, down from her 28% percentage score last June.

It was when President Rodrigo Duterte accepted his nomination to run for vice president in 2022 for PDP-Laban faction of Energy Secrery Alfonso Cusi, when Pulse Asia conducted the survey.

Mayor Duterte’s rating remains anchored on Mindanao where she scored 47%, followed by Visayas at 23%, and Metro Manila at 12%. She got her lowest rating in Balanced Luzon at 8%.

Ranking second to the younger Duterte was former senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos, Jr. with 15%, followed by Manila Mayor Francisco ‘Isko Moreno’ Domagoso (13%) and Senator Emmanuel ‘Manny’ Pacquiao (12%).

Placing fifth is Senator Grace Poe (9%), followed by Vice President Leni Robredo (8%), and Senator Panfilo Lacson (6%).

The September Pulse Asia poll was conducted before Pacquiao and Moreno declared their intention to run for president last September 19 and September 21, respectively.

On the other hand, Senate President Vicente Sotto III topped the preferences for the next vice president (25%), followed by President Rodrigo Duterte (14%), Moreno (12%), Marcos (12%), Pacquiao (7%).

Meanwhile, broadcaster Raffy Tulfo led the Pulse Asia poll on preferred senatorial bets with 55.2% rating, followed by Taguig Representative Alan Peter Cayetano with 53.6%, Sorsogon Governor Francis Escudero with 47.9%, Antique Rep. Loren Legarda with 47.2%, Moreno with 42.3%, and Pacquiao with 42.2%.

Rounding up the probable winners in the Senate race were: Lacson (40.5%), Marcos (40.2%), television show host Willie Revillame (36.6%), Public Works and Highways Secretary Mark Villar (36.2%), former vice-president Jejomar Binay (29.5%), former Senator Jinggoy Estrada, former senator Paolo Benigno ‘Bam’ Aquino IV, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri (28.3%), and Senator Francis Pangilinan (26.8%).

Of these names, four people namely Cayetano, Moreno, Pacquiao, and Lacson declared intention to run either for president or vice president in the 2022 polls.

The rest of Filipino adults at 2.1%, however, are not inclined to vote for any senatorial candidate while 1% are still ambivalent about whom to vote for as senator in May 2022.

There are 0.7% who also refuse to identify their preferred candidates for the Senate.

The survey, which has a ± 2% error margin at the 95% confidence level, was based on a sample of 2,400 representative adults or those aged 18 years old and above.

The respondents were given a list of names and asked who will they vote if the May 2022 were held that day and they were candidates. The respondents were also given a chance to mention others not included in the list.

Other issues being discussed during the survey period were the hearings of the Senate Blue Ribbon committee and House of Representatives on the Department of Health’s deficiencies in the use of COVID-19 funds, Metro Manila’s shift from modified enhanced community quarantine to general community quarantine, leaked video of presidential spokesperson Harry Roque castigating health workers who asked for reconsideration on the downgrade in the quarantine classification.

Subnational estimates for each of the geographic areas covered in the survey (i.e., Metro Manila, the rest of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao) have a ± 4% error margin, also at 95% confidence level.
