MANILA – Super Typhoon Goring has left an initial PHP189.1 million worth of losses to crops in Cagayan Valley, the Department of Agriculture-Disaster Risk Reduction Management (DA-DRRM) reported on Wednesday.

Based on Bulletin No. 3 issued at 1 p.m., the agency said initial assessment of the DA Regional Field Office (RFO) showed that the typhoon has also affected 3,962 farmers, with volume of production loss at 7,032 metric tons (MT) and 11,280 hectares (ha.) of agricultural areas.

It added that most of the damage and losses were incurred at reproductive and maturity stages of corn and rice.

The DA noted that the available interventions are PHP100 million worth of rice, corn and assorted vegetable seeds; drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry and Quick Response Fund (QRF) for the rehabilitation of affected areas.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said Goring is forecast to follow a mainly west northwestward path across the Luzon Strait until it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) by Wednesday night or Thursday morning.

It will likely remain as a super typhoon until Friday. (PNA)
