The Department of Health (DoH) reported 470 additional cases of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Wednesday, raising the nationwide total to 32,295.
In its latest bulletin, the Health department reported 357 “fresh” and 113 “late” cases — majority of which are in the National Capital Region (NCR) and Central Visayas that are considered as virus hotpots in the country.
The fresh cases were composed 159 infections from Metro Manila, 141 from Central Visayas, and 57 from other regions, while the 113 late cases were composed of 66 infections from NCR, 4 from Central Visayas, and 43 from other regions.
The DoH also reported that the number of recoveries increased to 8,656 after 214 recuperations were reported, while the death toll rose to 1,204 after 18 fatalities were recorded.
Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said that while the national daily number of cases appears to “stabilize,” the DoH is expecting a surge of COVID-19 cases after the government eased quarantine restrictions in some parts of the country.
The Department of Foreign Affairs also announced 27 new COVID-19 infections and four new fatalities among Filipinos overseas, raising the total to 8,351 cases and 512 deaths.
