Being A Celebrity Is No Pass to Break the Law

At the moment I am writing this, most Filipinos in Metro Manila and surrounding provinces are in the middle of traffic hell because of security arrangements for the holding of the ASEAN Summit. Today is November 12, 2017, a Sunday and last night, November 11, commuters and motorists were treated to an average of four (4) hours of standstill or crawling traffic.

Now, I am blaming the organizers of the ASEAN Summit for this brouhaha, because it has been an issue in the past and it could have been avoided if only they really, truly planned it properly, like doing it all in Subic. But i will discuss this in another post.

Right now, I want to direct your attention to a celebrity, Ms. Maria Isabel Lopez and her Facebook post. For those of you who have yet to see it, here is the link – facebook.com/ma.isabellopez.

In the post, the former movie star brags how she illegally removed the traffic cones from the ASEAN Summit Lanes along EDSA, entered and used it with impunity. You can even hear how happy she was with her escapade, screaming and giggling like a teen girl who escaped from being grounded by her parents.

And she posted not one, but two videos to boot. Here is the other one –

Now, just this alone makes her liable for violation of a number of traffic violations including Anti Distracted Driving Law, breach of a security lane, and maybe more.

The thing is, why was she not apprehended by traffic officers? Did they not realize she was not allowed inside the ASEAN Lane?

Or is it this proclivity of Filipino celebrities to flaunt their violation of our laws and manage to get away with it because they are celebrities unstoppable already?

I want to see what MMDA Chairman Danny Lim or Asst. GM Tim Orbos will do about this.
