Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chairman Benhur Abalos Jr. yesterday said outdoor exercises in Metro Manila will not be allowed for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).
Abalos said they passed a resolution prohibiting people from conducting exercises outside their homes to protect them from the virus.
“Bilang panghuli, nagpasa rin kami ng resolution ngayon lang hapon na ultimo paglabas ng bahay maski exercise bawal na po. Sapagka’t importante for the next two weeks mapangalagaan ang mga nasa Metro Manila,” said Abalos.
Earlier, the Inter-Agency Task Force on COVID -19 (IATF) allowed limited outdoor exercise under ECQ
Joggers, runners, bikers, and the like can exercise outside as long as it is in the vicinity of their homes or within their barangay.
The Department of Health (DOH) also said they need to wear face masks at all times and practice physical distancing.
In the week-long ECQ enforced over the Greater Manila area, those under 18 years old and over 65 are prohibited from leaving their homes for non-essential reasons.
The ECQ took effect on August 6 until August 20.
