Comelec began distribution of teacher’s honoraria

Teachers, who served as poll workers in the National and Local Elections, began receiving honorarium, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said.
Comelec chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the commission is targeting to complete the payment for teachers at least less than ten days after election.
The Comelec, for the last three years, started the distribution of the honoraria for teachers. Under the ESRA Law, it should take 15 days after the elections for the disbursement but we want it finished by less than ten days, Garcia added.
Teachers serving as election registration board (ERB) members are to receive additional P2,000 honoraria. This means ERB members will receive P10,000 and chairpersons P12,000.
According to Garcia, some regions have already finished paying the teachers including Region 3 (Central Luzon).
“Meron nang 100%. As of kahapon, sa Region 3 ay naibigay na sa lahat ng guro na naglingkod. ‘Yung Region 5, nasa 95% na ang distribution. Minamarapat natin na maibigay kaagad ang mga pinaghirapan ng guro,” he added.
In January, the Comelec said it will train at least 186,000 teachers to serve as ERB members for the 2025 midterm elections.
