BI warns overstaying aliens after arrest of French nat’l
MANILA – The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Friday warned foreigners anew to adhere to existing immigration laws following the arrest of an undocumented French national.
“We will not tolerate overstaying aliens who disregard the legal requirements of their stay in our country,” BI Commissioner Norman Tansingco said in a statement.
Last Sept. 5, the BI arrested 51-year-old French national Yassine Nouraddine Debah at Victory Norte in Santiago City, Isabela following a two-day surveillance.
Debah is now under BI custody while awaiting his deportation proceedings in Bicutan, Taguig.
Tansingco said Debah was found to be undocumented and overstaying due to his expired passport, with no extension, which is a violation of the Philippine Immigration Act of 1940.
“We will continue to be vigilant and proactive in ensuring that immigration regulations are upheld,” he added. (PNA)
