Families affected by 2 typhoons, ‘habagat’ soar to 106K

MANILA – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Friday said some 106,677 families have so far been affected by the effects of the southwest monsoon and Typhoons Goring and Hanna.

This is significantly higher than the 85,395 reported on Thursday, the NDRRMC said in its latest disaster bulletin.

The latest figure is equivalent to 387,242 persons in 1,382 barangays in Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

Of this number, 5,152 families or 21,701 individuals are being sheltered inside 293 evacuation centers while another 6,092 families or 24,827 persons are being aided outside.

The Office of Civil Defense earlier said the affected families include those displaced and those not needing transfer or removal from their residence.

As of this time, the NDRRMC said it is validating the report of one death in Western Visayas.

Meanwhile, some 482 houses were reported damaged in Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and Cordillera.

Damage to agriculture was estimated at PHP395.2 million in Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon and Western Visayas.

Around 8,734 farmers and fisherfolk were affected by the bad weather.

Meanwhile, infrastructure damage was placed at PHP41.2 million in Cagayan Valley, Mimaropa, Western Visayas and Cordillera. (PNA)
