Metro Manila mayors agreed to pass their respective ordinances against unlawful use of government-procured vaccines as booster shots, as several reported incident of people caught availing of extra vaccine shot by misrepresenting themselves as unvaccinated.

In a resolution pass by the Metro Manila Council (MMC), they will require all vaccine recipients  to declare under oath that they have not yet been fully inoculated for COVID-19.

“The Metro Manila Council hereby urges local government units of Metro Manila to issue executive orders and/or enact ordinances therein penalizing all persons who are found to be responsible for the unauthorized inoculation utilizing government-procured COVID-19 vaccines as booster shots such as, but not limited to, vaccinators, vaccinees, and facilitators, based on existing laws, ordinances, rules and regulations,” the resolution indicated.

Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte suggested having uniform sanctions against individuals who may be hopping to other cities to secure more doses of COVID-19 vaccines or get booster shots that experts have not yet recommended.

Earlier, the Department of Health vowed that it will investigate the “city-hopping for booster shot” incident, but added that there is no legal sanction yet for the unauthorized act.
