The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) fully supports amendments to the proposal to amend tghe Human Securoity Act of 2007 (HSA).

DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano said this move should help to ensure the safety of Filipinos and promote peace and order around the country.

Ano said they will particularly want to change the provision on wiretapping and detention periods. He said fighting terrorism is very different from ordinary crimes that happen everyday.

The Intertior Secretary added that investigating a terrorist group or individuals needs to be very stringent and may take time. This is the reason why they need to expand the wiretapping and detention period as this is very important in combatting terrorism in the Philippines.

Anop also said that terrorists do not choose their targets and have no care who will get hurt when they conduct their terrorist attacks. This is why the government must be ready at all times to prevent and/or address plots to protect our citizens.
