We’ve been waiting for this new model for quite some time now. Having seen the development of the Mazda 3 from a very awkward looking teen to a highly fashionable and sensual adult, we hoped that the new model would at the least allow us the same impression.

Well the new Mazda 3 did not disappoint. The Kodo design philosphy has done wonders for the Mazda 3, giving it a fresh and exquisite look while retaining the performance and functionality of its purpose (if we are to believe the spec sheet since I have not had the chance to drive it).

It has two versions, the Mazda 3, one is a sedan, of course and the other a hatchback. Both models have large meshed grilles with Mazda’s logo sitting at the center. The grille is flanked by a pair of aggressive headlamps that rounds it out to the sides giving it a wider face. An accented lower lip allows for a grand finish to the face of the Mazda 3.

From the rear, a refreshed tailgate protrudes outward, that, combined with the bumper and a new taillight design makes the Mazda 3 look more agile, sportier even as it blends excellently with its body lines.

Inside, we find seats elegantly wrapped in red leather and fabrics that are soothing to the touch. An 8-inch infotainment system sits at the center of the dashboard giving accent to the 3-spoked steering wheel. The same attention to detail that gives the exterior attitude can also be found inside.

Mikko David, Marketing head of Mazda, introducing the Mazda 3 models.

The Mazda 3 stands on 18-inch alloy wheels with a unique design that further accentuates the finely tuned architecture of the body. From where I was standing, the Mazda 3 is impressive and I can’t help repeating myself over that. So yes, its Kodo impresses me.

We still don’t know how much the Mazda 3 will take off of our bank accounts. Steven Tan, head of Mazda Philippines refuses to tell us. And we are also not sure of the technology that will come with it. But hey, we waited this long, we can wait a bit.
