Where Do Flight Crews Hide Out In Mid Flight?
If you have always wondered where all those flight crews disappear to when you reach the middle of a long haul flight, you’d be in for a surprise. Because inside a massive Airbus A380, there is a small compartment where flight crews get to tuck themselves in and get away from all that hard stuff passengers usually demand from them.
I mean, we all know how heavy the real job of a flight crew is. You need to be a saint with the patience of the Lord Himself when you deal with unruly passengers, children going wild and sudden turbulence while you are serving soup.
You can see in this video the nice little space airplane designers made for the crew of a plane to rest mid-flight, when all the passengers are asleep (except for that madman who wants a refill of his white wine every 10-minutes).
Of courser this is Lufthansa and their planes are admirably well designed. But I am sure there is one for every long haul plane in other airlines, if not as swanky as this. The bunks are capsule type designed, much like those in tiny Japanese hotels and it has a bathroom shared among the crew.
The best part is that this place is probably the quietest location inside an airplane aside from the flight deck, It is so quiet you will not hear the scream of that 2-year old trying to rid her ears of that pressure, something you cannot fully avoid even in First Class.
I guess flight crews need this zen place, if only to recover their composure when they get back to the main deck.
