Another ride-sharing app that has been operating under the radar has been told to cease and desist from operating in the Philippines until they have been issued the necessary permits to operate by the Land Transportation Regulatory and Franchising Board or LTFRB.

“Please be informed that on 27 January 2017, LTFRB issued an Advisory against Wunder Carpool ordering it to cease operations as  it was operating as another form of TransportationNetwork Company (TNC) without coordinating with the agency” – the order said.

Wunder is another mobile app based ride-sharing program that allows passengers to connect with drivers through technology. Its format is to fill up empty seats in a vehicle for people going in the same direction.

LTFRB Board Member Atty. Aileen Lizada said the operation of Wunder is against local laws and their vehicles are all considered “colorums” or illegal public transport units.

“We are not preventing them from operating, we just want them to register their business with us because local regulations say they must for the protection of both consumer and provider.” – Atty. Aileen Lizada.

Wunder is a German based company that claims to have pioneered ride-hailing in Europe and is now expanding to South East Asia, particularly India and the Philippines.

Lizada said that they have nothing against TNC’s and that they are willing to move side-by-side with new technology but there are regulations that must be followed for the benefit of both commuters and service providers.

Wunder, Libre Taxi, Arcade City and Angkas are the latest mobile applications that have been censored by the LTFRB for failing to follow local rules on public conveyance.
