Philippine Ambassador to Thailand Millicent Cruz-Paredez said 40,000 Filipinos in Thailand are safe despite ongoing clashes in the Kingdom’s border region with Cambodia.

The 356 Filipinos residing in 7 Thai provinces near the Cambodian border have been evacuated, and are staying either in government facilities or their friends’ residences, Paredez said.

Between 70 and 80 percent of Filipinos in Thailand are teachers, and those who are employed near the Thai-Cambodian border have been given some financial aid, the Ambassador said.

“Dahil suspended ang classes sa border provinces na yun, sa kasamaang palad, no work no pay ang sitwasyon nila,” she said.

“Tayo po ay laging nagmamatyag at nagsusubaybay sa kinaroroonan at kalagayan ng mga Pilipino dito sa Thailand,” she said.

Despite this, Paredez said that there is no immediate need to urge Filipinos to find other places of employment.

“Hindi natin nakikita sa ngayon na magkakaroon ng malawakang pagkilos dahil confined naman yung labanan sa border,” she said.

“As a matter of fact, dito sa Bangkok, hindi namin nararamdman ang kahit anong danger,” she added.

The centuries-long dispute in the 800-kilometer border between Thailand and Cambodia reignited this year after bickering escalated into armed confrontation in mid-2025.
