Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro assures that the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) is still securing Vice President Sara Duterte amid recall of her security.

During the DND’s Senate budget briefing, Senator Ronald dela Rosa asked Teodoro about the supposed recall of Duterte’s security head security following an alleged pending case.

“Your Honor, the group has been abolished. And it is under the AFP-ASPG.” Teodoro said, giving assurances that the Vice President is still being secured despite the abolition of her group.

“All mandated officials po are provided with appropriate security,” Teodoro said.

Meanwhile, AFP Chief of Staff Romeo Brawner said he was not referring to the recent protest against corruption in the flood control projects of the government when he issued a reminder to soldiers.

“Your Honor, I was actually talking to the troops yesterday in line with the 35th anniversary of the Code of Ethics of the Armed Forces of the Philippines. So, yun po yung konteksto. That in under code of ethics of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the armed forces is non-partisan when it comes to politics. So ang sinabi ko lang po, mag-focus lang tayo sa trabaho. Huwag na tayo makinig masyado sa nangyayari political,” he said.

When dela Rosa asked if he was referring to the recent protest, Brawner said, “Hindi naman po. I’m just reminding all the soldiers, kahapon po nangyari yun yung flag raising ceremony namin. It was, it involved all the units of the armed forces kasi naka-online po kami. Maski yung mga nandun sa Mindanao na mga units, this was a united effort to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Code of Ethics of the AFP.”
