Ako Bicol Representative Zaldy Co resigned from his position as a member of the House of Representatives weeks after he was tagged as among the alleged masterminds in the multi-billion flood control scandal.

In a letter sent to House Speaker Faustino Dy III, Co said he is “constrained to tender with immediate effect my irrevocable resignation as a member of the House of Representatives.”

This is in light of “the real, direct, grave and imminent threat” to him and his family members, as well as “the evident denial of my right to due process of law.”

Co also made a post in his facebook account.

Earlier on Monday, the Independent Commission for Infrastructure recommended the filing of charges against Co as well as other officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for alleged irregularities in a P290-M flood control projects in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro.

DPWH Secretary Vince Dizon had previously tagged Co and Sunwest Inc behind five of the seven substandard flood control projects in Oriental Mindoro.
