The Department of Transportation (DORTr) on Wednesday announced that the 50 percent fare discount special Beep cards for students will be available on the MRT and LRT lines in September.

The special programmed Beep cards will automatically have the 50 percent fare discount.

This Beep cards is similar with the senior citizens and PWDs.

Last June, DOTr increased student discount on LRT and MRT lines to 50 percent from the previous 20 percent.

To avail the discount for single-journey tickets, students needed to present a valid ID within the current school year or proof of enrollment at the ticket counter.

Students taking post-graduate studies can also avail of the discount.
